At the annual meeting of the Acclimatisation Society, there was a very interesting disouasion on the habits of trout in colonial rivers. It was stated that large numbers of rainbow trout go out to sea neverio return, while other varieties are scarcely more satisfactory, in their ways It seems fairly certain that the fish go out to sea, but return for spawning, after which they make their war to the head waters. Consequently there is really only one period in which a good bag can be obtained on the lower reaches. In order 'that the full benefit of the close season for native and imported game may bo secured the society. As offering a reward for the conviction of all poachers.
