INTERSECTION OF CUBA AND MANNERS STREETS. WIDENING PROPOSALS. A recommendation was submitted to the iCity Council last night ,by the Finance Committee: That' a final offer of £600 be . made (without prejudice) to the Wesley Churoh Trustees, for the purchase of .17 perches of land at the corner of Cuba and Manners Streets, including compensation to tho tenant and alterations to the corner of the building. . The Mayor (Dr. Newman) said that the trustees did not wish that the matter should be discussed in the above form. They desired to meet' the Finance Committee and. discuss the whole of the details in connection with the negotiations. • . " ■. ' A councillor: Refer the clause back to the committee. '■■-.-

Tho Mayor: That is all that can be done.

.Councillor Fletcher: What is the position if they do not aocopt this? The Mayor: It will come before tho council again. It must, because nobody can do anything. I have reason to believe that this will settle tho matter.

Councillor Devihe: We havo got to go slow. Councillor Fletcher asked whether this was to bo regarded as tho council's tinal offer. ' . ,

Th« Mayor: If this offer is not accepted, then tho council will havo an opportunity, to consider at next meeting whether we shall take a portion or whether wo shall take th« wholei corner. ,
