BOXING.

DEXSCOiL STILL CHAMPION / FEATHER-WEIGHT. <. Bj Telozraph-Press Association-Copyright London, April 19. Driscoir retains tlie feather-weight boxing championship, having defeated "Spike" Robson in fifteen rounds.; Kobson was from the ring in an unconscious condition./ ■ WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. ' The annual report in connection with the Wellington boxing Association states that the season was a busy one, and the results attained must, on the whole, be considered satisfactory to the association. Tliere wero at the present time many (nominees awaiting enrolment on the active and, honorary lists, but the committee did not deem it expedient to alter the. present rule, which provides for a stated number of active and honorary ' members. ... At the New ■ Zealand Amateur Championships, the association was worthily represented. The question •of acquiring permanent premises for the purposes of .the 1 ' association again occupied the attention of the committee during the year. A subcommittee, was appointed to consider and report upon several offers which had been made to the association, but the financial difficulties involved by the acceptance of any one offer were such as to justify the committee in not taking any definite action until the present financial burden becomes more bearable.

The progress of the sport in tho territorial districts over which the association holds sway was a matter for congratulation. During the year the Wairarapa Boxing Association had been resuscitated, thanks to ■ the energy ol Messrs. Whatman, Saville-Smifh, and other enthusiasts, and bids fair to ,play a prominent part in the boxing affairs of tho Dominion. A new association had, come into existence at Wanganui, and tinder the control, of its present executive should have a successful career. The formation of other associations was also projected in other parts of the territorial districts governed by yonr association. It wag gratifying to be able to state that very .harmonious relations existed between the executive and the management ut tno neveral associations in the Wei-. lington-Nelson-Marlborough districts. The committee protested against the decision of the council not to allow the further use of the Town Hall for professional boxing contests, on the ground that it infringed, the rights of. a considerable section of Wellington citizens. The Town Hall, it was contended by the committee, being the properly or tho citizens, should not be closed for boxing tourneys which were carried out in strict conforni'ty to the drastic regulations imposed by law, merely because a section of the public did not know and could not appreciate • the, diffcrenco between boxing and prize-lighting. In this connection, the committee desired to record its sincere thanks to those councillors who supported the ossoeiation's cause on all 'occasions in the council chamber. In past years the committee sought to foster the sport among the pupils attending fhe public schools in tho city by seeking the 00-bpefation of tho teachimi *Wfs, but its

efforts met with scant support. Step* wore again taken last season to enlist the services of. tha teachers in the different schools, but the response was no more enthusiastic than on former .occasions. The committee, however, noted with pleasure the attention given to the sport in Wellington and St. Colleges, and in several of the private educational institutions in the city.
