Arnst, the champion sculler, speaking to a press interviewer, said that on the Wanganui River you could always be sure of good water. The Parramatta, of course, was. a lovely stretch of water, but for how long could it be depended on? In the morning it was as smooth a? tho proverbial millpond, but if you wanted to row a big race, in the afternoon you would probably find yourself battling along through a heavy westerly or stiff nor'-easter. "No," he concluded, "give me old Wanganni, for, whatever uiay be said against, it, you can always depend lipon it."'
