. V *-r-T. THE RIVER TRAGEDY. MRS. ANDERSON'S BODY FOUND. (By TolesraDh.-SDccial Correspondent.! Wanganui, April 17. Mr. Jas. Higgle has been elected to fill the vacancy on the Kaukatea Road Board. The body of Mrs. Anderson, one of the victims of the boatiiig fatality a week ago, wasi' found" on Saturday morning on the South Spit beach, about a mile from the mouth of the river. This is the fourth body found to date, leaving four more to be recovered. Owing to the National Defence League ceasing to exist on acconut of having attained the specific object for which it was formed, viz., the securing of universal defence training to the age of 21, the local branch of the league will "bo called together next week' to discuss its future course of action. v It is considered unlikely that the branch will disband, as there is much work remaining for it to do, especially for the women's branch, which offers a wide field of usefulness. In his annual report on the Wanganui Technical School, the Chiof Inspector (Mr. Braik) says that the twelve months just closed have been the most successful in the history of the school. Its scops of usefulness. has been extended until it now stands second to nono in the Dominion. The work had been split, up into day and evening classes, both of _ which sections dis- ] closed a flourishing state of things. The engineering classes wore the largest in the Dominion, and the wora which had been turned out by students was a credit to themselves and their instructors. -
