THE NATIVE CAME SEASON.

Sir, —I noticed in a local by one of the Wellington papers that a month's shooting- season was gTanted to Auckland district (presumably for the benefit of Lord Plunket); but that other districts were not mentioned as having that privilege. Sportsmen generally, in this district, tako it to' mean that a soason has also boon, granted here, and, if so, are preparing for a month's shoot. I would be pleased if you could give me something definite on the matter, whether we are really to have a short season or not. The lake here is considered to have more birds thereon than at any time for years, and, if no season is held, a greater evil than ■ a short season will eventuate; the game will be bo thoroughly tamo for the next season,. that it will be slaughtered, and no pretenco of sport will be tne result. Many here think that one month for native game-shooting each year would bo quite sufficient, as' few .sportsmen go. out other than at tho beginning and end of the season.—l am, etc., AN INTERESTED SPORTSMAN. Featherston, April 12, 1910.
