Iflr Telesnoh.— Presj AuotUtlon.l —-— 4 :— ; THE STEAMER BRAMLEY. t PUTS BACK TO AUCKLAND FOB REPAIBS. Auckland, April 12. : Misfortune seems to follow the steamer Bramley. Upwards of a week ago she put into Auckland for repairs to her engines whilst en 'route from Newcastle to Valparaiso. On that occasion her main pump Links carried away, and repairs being effected she resumed her voyage. On Tuesday afternoon last, after proceed-, ing 500 • miles on her journey, trouble of an even more serious nature was experienced in the same direction; and the captain decided to put back to Auckland for further repairs, the vessel arriving in port at 10 a.m. to-day. It is expected that repairs will be completed in time to allow the Bramley to resume.her voyage to-morrow. THE RECENT FLOODS. ..> FKOZEN MEAT DAMAGED. Gisborne, April 12. It has not been possible until now to ascertain the damage done to Nelson Bros. Taruheru freezing works during the recent flood About 15,000 carcasses of mutton and between 300 and-. 400 quarters of beef have now been found to have been badly damaged. The water rose in. the freezing chambers, and reached the second and third tiers of meat, which was stacked up to 20 feet. It was only when 22,000 carcasses of untouched meat bad been taken out for shipment that it was possible to get at the lower tiers, the water had been ata temperature of about; 60 degrees, and this, combined with the weight of. the meat on top, com,'pressed the lower.rows out of. 6hape.' When the water receded, these sheep were found frozen solidly together in one block. A gang of 40 to 60 men has been employed with crowbars clearing away the which, -though not very, seriously damaged, are unfit, for export
TRAWLERS' DISPUTE. AN AGREEMENT.ARRIVED AT. .".""'. Duhedin, April 12. The Conciliation Council was engaged ' to-day in hearing the trawlers' dispute, and after a.lengthy sitting, an agreement was "arrived at to-night. The agreement provides, that. a..Week's /work shall not exceed. 70 hours, iior .exceed 12 hours in any day, without payment of overtime. .- Wages: Mate and leading deck hands, not less than £2 10s. per week, and found; engineer or man in charge of engines, .£3 10s., and found; fireman, ,£2 55., and found; deck hands and cooks, .£2, and found. Provision is made for overtime rates, and preference to unionists. The award will come into operation on Maj 1, and remain in force one year. CAPTURED. •'•;•':'.' Invercarsill, April 12. , Stockbridge, who escaped from gaol ; yesterday afternoon, was captured, at noon in the Mill Road; four miles-from town.
