A. syndicate, composed laTgely of local gentlemen, have formed themselves into a company known as-, the 'Talace Theatre Company." A- section of land has been purchased, on the eastern side of the post office, and the company propose to erect an up-to-date theatre and skating rink, almost immediately. -The contract.for the structure, which is to be of brick .and iron, has been let to Messrs Southgate and Melhuish, of Petone: The new theatre will.have a seating - accommodation of. 1000, and will be ; firted-up. somewhat, after :the style-of the ■Kihgfs Theatre, Wellington. Power is to be installed for the convenience of Mnematograph entertainers. ; The cost of 'the' undertaking is estimated at about £iOOO. Mr. James Gardner is. the architect, and Mr. E. W. Woodhouse is secretary of the company.

At the third annual meeting of the Petone Orchestral Society, the report and balance-sheet presented showed the finances to be in a sound condition, but there is still room for improvement. The society had' a most successful season last year, and the music was of a very high standard. The number of subsrcibers up to date is close upon 60. Officials elected for the year were:—President, his Worship the Mayor; vice-presidents, Mrs. R. ,C. Kirk, Eev. A. J. Seamer, and Mr B. G. Warnes; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. F. A. Aplin; librarian, Mr. Clough; conductor,, Mr. Watney Sibun; committee, Miss Kibblewhite, Mr. 1 Cambourne, and officers ex officio.

The resignation of Councillor Mowbray as a member of the Lower Hutt Bor-. ough .Council will make it necessary to hold an election extraordinary. Polling day is set down for Wednesday, May i, 1910. •..:■, A meeting of ladies and gentlemen interested in the formation of a Hutt Valley Golf Club will be held in Jones's Hall, Petone, on Friday night next at 8 o'clock.'' . '
