VICTORIA COLLEGE.
A CLUB MEETING. The first annual general meeting of the Victoria College Men'e Common. Eoom Club was held at the College on Saturday evening. Mr. J. McL.'Hogben was in the chair, and there was a good attendance.' .The report presented by the committee stated that the year had been on the whole a very successful one. Several entertainments had been given, all largely attended, while .the "Ladies' Night"-had been the most brilliant college social function of the year. Unfortunately the club had been hampered by the lack of ■ accommodatbii as the college, gymnasium and social hall were not available until August, when, in view .of the . close proximity ~of examinations, > the committee -considered''it would .bo useless to endeavour to obtain a room for the use of the club. ?or the-coming year the Students' Association executive had- already consented, to grant the club'the use of a room, which/would be under the club's control, and had also voted ,£lO towards the furnishing' of it.. It now remained only to.obtain-the use of the social hall on occasion, and application had already been made for permission. : The report was read and adopted, as was also the- balance-sheet, • which enowed a. small credit .balance. ...
The following officers were elected f<a the coming year:—Patron. Professor Hunter (re-elected); president,"" Mr. J. P, Thompson; vice-presidents, Messrs. H. L. Short and U; Lyon; secretary, Mr. Q. H. Nicholls; treasurer, Mr. E. G. Wright (re-eleoted); committee, Messrs. P. Broad,: F. A. Wikqn, A. E. Dobbie. and A. T. Duncan; auditor, Mr. P. A. Dβ la Mare. . ■ : . The Men's Common Eoom'Chib, it is urged, is an institution which should commend itself to every man attending lectures at the college, fo: it was founded for the express purpose 'of promoting social intercourse, good fellowship, and interchange of ideas which are a fea-' ture of university life in the Old World.
