PAKLIAMENTABY STEEPLECHASE FALL. By Teleeraph-Preßß Association—Copyrlrhl London, April 10. While riding in the Parliamentary Steeplechase at Epping, Mr. James Tomkinson, Liberal M JP. for Crewe Division of Cheshire, vras thrown from his horse. He fell on his. head. After being insensible for some time, he recovered consciousness, and some hopes for his recovery wore entertained. However, he succumbed to his injuries. ■ [Mr. James Tomkinson was the eldest surviving son of the late LieutenantColonel Tomkinson, of Willington Hall, and was educated at Hugby and Balliol. He was a partner in the banking firm of Williams and Co.,' Chester, ■ absorbed into Lloyds Bank, of which Mr. Tomkinson was a director. He had been interested in many Cheshiro industries, including some collieries and the supply of water to Mawarden, and was a director of the Wirral Itailway Company; a J.P. and D.L. for Cheshire, Major and Hon. Lieutenant-Colonel Earl of Chester's Imperial' Yeomanry, and High Sheriff of the county, Mr. Tomkinson was a veteran campaigner,' having contested West Cheshire in 1881, the TVirral division in 1885, the Eddisbury division in 1886, and 1892, and ,the Nuneaton division of Warwickshire in 1895, all without success. In ISJO6 Crewe division of Cheshire returned him by 2508 votes, in January last by 2!!i2 votes. 'He was born in 1840, and married, in IS7I, Emily, daughter of Sir Geor"o Palmer, Bart. ; Mrs. Tomkinson died in 1906.] ,
