GOVERNMENT GRADING ■ SUGGESTED. ■■ >' (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Auckland, Aprilß, Tho proposal to intrqduco a system of Government grading for frozen meat was considered at this afternoon's meeting of the Auckland A. and P. Association.. .'•!'■•■■''-"■'■ ■ A.letter was received from tho Gi3borrie branch of tho Farmer's' Union, covering tho following resolution: — "That the. Government bo urged* to see that tho necessary legislation, is introduced making it compulsory for all meat exported from tho Dominion to bo graded by a Government grader in tho same manner as butter, cheese, and hemp' is now graded. It is' riot suggested that thero. should,bo one uniform grade* throughout the. . Dominion, but that if tho exneHs consider there is a marked difference in quality, discretion should be. allowed them. Nor I is" it suggested that there should bo any power to interfere with tho classification of tho meat for trade purposes." The president (Mr. J. Gray) said it was .evident that tho Gisborne farmers wanted tboso interested in the frozen meat trade to adopt a system similar to that of grading and' stamping New

Zealand butter. He understood that delegates from the various companies were to moot again in Wellington shortly, to consider matters affecting tho frozen meat trade, and pending that it would be perhaps as well to await further developments. Mr. 6. J. Garland said farmers folt that they should bo -protected at the other end the. same as tho dairy farmers were protected by the system of Government supervision'and grading. It was decided, on Mr. Garland's motion, to defer tho question for a month, and to ask Mr. Baugh and Colonel Bell to wait upon tho committee and'address them on the subject.
