Sir GeorgeFarrar, a member of the I<ogislativo Assembly of Transvaal colony, and Leader of tho Opposition, in the course of a speech at a conference of the Transvaal Progressive Federation, declared that the Dutch organisations Hut Volk (Transvaal), tho Orangia llnie (Orange River Colony), and the Afrikander Bond (Cape Colony) are now regarded as ono party. • However willing General Botha (Transvaal Premier) had Seen to co-opera to with tho Progressive patty, his retrograde followers were too strong. ■
Sir Georgo Farrar advised tho Progressives to reorganise under Dr.' Jameson (Progressive Leader in Cape Colony). Their opponents, he sajd, were fighting among themselves for tho position of first Prime Minister of the TJnion of South Africa. He urged South Africa to share in the cost of the Imperial Navy. EDUCATION IN ORANGIA. DUTCH POLICY: A RESIGNATION. Bloemfontein, April 5. Progressive newspapers denounce the enforced resignation of Mr. Gunn, Director of Education in Orange River Colony, owing to the proposals of General Hertzog (Attorney-General) as to bi. lingual education. The Orange River Colony Parliament is considering a Bill providing for the extension of the bilingual principle among teachers. NATIVE LABOUR REFORMS. ZULUS FOR THE RAND GOLD-MINES. (Rec. April 6, 10.45 p.m.) London, April 6. The Johannesburg correspondent of the "Daily Chronicle" (Liberal) quotes a "high authority*' as stating' that the Union Government intend to make sweeping reforms in the management of native labour, increasing the recruiting area, and improving' tha conditions of the natives. It is proposed to introduce 60,000 Zulus to work on the Rand.
