NOXIOUS WEED CASES.
: FARMERS AGGRIEVED. . A Napier ■ ■ Press : Association message states that several defendants in noxious' weed, prosecutions ,at the Magistrate's Court yesterday seemed", to feel. aggrieved at being haledbefore the . Court. The chief objection appeared to be on.accqunt of the great difficulty, of keeping down the pests.in question. (Californian. thistle). One. man put his case graphically. . "It grows," he said, "in most inaccessible places, and no living man-could get there. It would take wings to do it. I would far rather, contract to clear Hawke's .Bay of rabbits than to remove the thistle from some, of these, spots." In imposing fines, Mr. Jl'Carthy, S.M., > said that although it is almost impossible to. get rid of the weed, yet there was' the. law, and it must be complied with. ' Compliance with tho law prevented , the spread of. .the weed to other persons' property. , .The' magistrate added that his experience in.. Southland showed that very serious , consequences might 'result from Californian thistle being, allowed to'seed in' , the . beds, of creeks. : . •
