The revenue of ■the United Kingdom for the quarter ended March 31 amounted to. £37,400,909, the leading items being; . . < • - Customs ~ £7,993,000 Excise ....„ £7,162,000 Stomps £2,108,000 Property and income tax for tho year ended March 31, totalled £13,295,000. YEARS' FIGURES COMPARED. RESULT OF NON-PASSING OF THE BUDGET. Adding the above quarterly figures to previous returns, the total revenue for the United Kingdom for the year 1909-10, as compared with that for the preceding year 1908-09, is as under: 1908-C9 _ ... £151,578,295 1909-10 £131,696,456 Decrease in 1909-10... £19,881,839 • Tho year just, closed, therefore, showe a falling-off of nearly twenty millions, due to the disarrangement of the finances caused by the House of Lords' refusal to pass the Budget, and, secondarily, by the Government's refusal to enact the income tax resolutions separately. Indeed, the,/decrease shown, and a little more, is found under the head of prop_erty and income tax.' Government with calculated mismanagement of the country , a affairs, with a view to punish the country for not sanctioning parta of the Budget, also with a view to leaving financial chaos in order to embarrass the Government's political opponents.
