LIVE STOCK SALES.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, March 2. At Addington tUero was a very large yarding of stock, and the entries of sheep of all classes must have constituted a record. There was also a'large attendance. There was no, change in fat cattle or Btore sheep except in forward woihors and lambs and young owes, which w?re easier. Fat lambs also showed.a decline of about 6d. per head. There was a good sale for fat pigs, but a poor demand for stores. 'Pat sheep maintained their values, and, there was a good.sale for dairy 'cows, but not much inquiry for store cattle. The entry of store sheep was a very heavy one, and all the available space was fully occupied. The entry was a mixed one, and a, considerable proportion consisted ~pt rough and low-conditioned sorts. For forward dry sheep, both wethers and lambs, that could be finished off this season there was a good demand, and all classes of young and fresh-mouthed ewes were also readily saleable. All other descriptions of sheep were, on tho whole, easier.'
Forward wethers made 12s. 6d. to 13s. 6d.; two, four, and six-tooth ewes, 15s. 10d. and 165.; four, six, and eightrtooth owes, 12s. to 13s. 7d.; sound-mouth, 10s. to 12a.. 6d.; aged, ss. 6d. to 83. 10d.; forward lambs, 10s. to 12s. 10d.; medium, Bs. to 9s. 6d.;,and small, 7s. to 7s. lOd. There was also an exceptionally heavy yarding of fat lambs of mixed quality, the total being 12,625. Competition among, export buyers was keen, but prices showed an. casing off-to tho extenti of about .6d., per head. .In fat sheep prices kept up woll to' the previous week's level. ' - " -
! There wore 278 head of fat cattle penned; .'mostly cows and heifers, but of; good aver-' age., quality. There was a fairly good demand all through, - and priceß were about on a par with last week for steers, while cows and-heifers were a little lower in value. Calves made 4s. 6d. to 505., according to size and quality. There was a heavy entry of pigs, and for fats there was a'-very, good deoand. Choppers ' made 40s. to 605., largo baconers 40s. to 465., lighter-355. to 38s—equal to 3id. to 3Jd. per,lb. Largo porkers made 325. to 345., smaller,, 28s. to - 30s.—equal' to' 41d. per lb. • A very prime and even lot of 62 halfbrcd Tamworth' baconers'made 445;. Largo stores .made 275., to 31s. ,6(L;, medium 18s. to-2551, small 10s. to Us;, and weaners 4s. to Bs. 9d.
Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report:—At our Palmorston North sale yesterday there was a good entry of sheep and a fair entry of cattle, and nearly all were disposed of. Sheep: Mixed lambs, small, 4s. 6d., ss. 7d., to sb.i 8,d.; wether lambs, ,ss. 4d.; small 2-tooth, .ewes, 10s. 3d.; aged ewes, 4s. Bd. to ss. 7d.; 6-tooth owes, to 13s. 10d.; fat ewes, to- 9fi. sd:; 4 and 5-year ewes, Bs. 4d. to~ 9s. Id. to'9s. 6d.; wethers', to lis.; 4-tooth Romney rams, to 1J guineas; 2-tooth Shropshire, to Ji guineas.; .Cattle; "Weaners, to £1 Is. to 285.; heifers; £3 2s. ".to £3 125.; fat cows, £4 6s.
.Messrß. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report as follows:—At Palmerston yesterday a-largo, entry of .sheep came forward,, and met with a good all-round demand, several nice straight lines of 4 and 5-yoar. ewes being eagerly sought after. Forward lambs for rape also sold well. Quotations:—Sheep: 400 4-year ewes, lis. 3d.; 650 4 and 5-year ewes, 10s. sd. and 10s. M.;! 420 4.and 5-year ewes. 10s. 6d.; 330 4 and 5-year ewes, 10s. -BcLj 2-tooth ewes, 13s. 6d. to 13s. 9d.;,2-tooth to f.f.ml' ewes.'lls. 2d.; f.m.'ewes, 7s. Id. to Bs. 4d.; cull ewes, 3s. 4d to ss; fat and forward ewes, 9s lid.; forward wethers, 125.; 2-tooth' wethers, Us:; rape, lambs, 6s. 9d. to Bs.;.store lambs, 4s. 4d. to 55.; cull lambs, 3s. 5d.; Eomney rams, 21 guineas. Cattle: Forward cows, £3 12s. 6d.; wcaner heifers, 205.; weaner steers, 31s.
The Solway -stock-fair; iorganisedby.the Masterton A.' and P; Association in aid of the Solway Land Purchase Fund, was held in Messrs.. Abraham and Williams' saleyards, this weok, by Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Dalgety and Co., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Co. There was a large entry of stock of every description donated by supporters from all parts of the Wairarapa. The attendance was good, and the bidding for the various lots keen. It is estimated that as a result of the fail' the Solway funds -will bo-augment-ed to the extent of £300. This" amount in addition to the sum realised at, the recent show and ram fair will bring the total up to about £600. Fat bullocks realised from £1110s. per head, fat sheep from 305., horsoß from £15, and Mr. W. Perry's pen of twenty stud Lincoln ewes realised the handsome sum of £72 12s. 6d.
