It was decided at last night's meeting of the City; Council to invite the Governor, the Prime ; Minister, and the. Joseph;-Ward a J cablegram from; Lord ..Kitchener .accepting. an-invi-. ta,tionto a.-civic welcome; -The ; welcomewill- probably be held on the evening 'of February. 24 in the Town Hall. . In connection with Lord Kitchener's visit,, arrangements are . proceeding for, the -mobilisation of. the volunteer forces ,on March.'l.-'i.lt is likely , that the'en? campment v-: will - be ' held\ ; somewliere about llanurewa- or Pa'pakura, although no: site has yet been definitely settled. A suggestion has .-.been '.put ' fbrward , that the Domain would be the best point for centralisation,'. and ' that , the FieldMarshal could . just as- easily put the : forces through'field operations from there as anywhere else. -Colonel: Wolfe will make a- final inspection of 'the, different sites proposed,, but it is understood; that Papakura or Manurewa will be given' preference. Of. the 4600,' troops comprising'the'Auckland forces, 'it is hoped'that about ,3000 will- go into 'camp. .-.
