■ CONCERT-AT DAY'S BAY. , On Monday evening a large number of stu-' dents journeyed by the ferry boat to Day's Day to hold a picnic and concert. Tlio affair was a picnic from start to finish, and the concert also started on the boat and concluded as the steamer ..touched tlio ferry wharf on tlio return journey. On tho boat tlio concert commenced with' tho rendering of somowhat curious selections on still more, curious -musical instruments. Thero wcro also impromptu choruses sung in varying timo and tuno by hastily organised glee clubs. Arrived at the bay tho members of tho party amused themselves for some time with tlio water chute and other attractions. Then tho concert- proper commenced. Tlio method adopted in securing performers was an original one. First tho required man was called for — "Wo want ." If ho remained wanting, ho was promptly soized by tho amis and legs, and bundled unceremoniously oh to tho stage. -The first performer secured was tho tournament secretary. Ho rose in dignified manner from tho stage wlioro ho had been dumped, walked to the piano, and, with ono finger, diligently sought out tho National Anthem. He got no farther than the first bar or so, for a threatening opposition chorus "Wo pushed him through tho Window'! was started. • He subsequently attempted to entertain the unruly students with a lecture, but was again threatened and retired. Tlio next performer was Mr. Georgo Prouse, who sang "Little Maid of Arcady" in very pleasing stylo, and, in response to_ a recall, gave "Sally in our Ally." Other items on the programme wore a comic song "Tho Deep Bassoon," by Mr. W. Wilson, a recitation "How Brother Bill recited ' The Wreck of tho Hesperus,' " by Mr. Girdlestono; a recitation by Mr. F. A. Do la Mare; "Simon the Cellarer," sung by Mr. C. Jones; "How Rubinstein Hayed," recited by Mr. Robinson; "Three Blind Mico" (a comic version of iti, sung by Mr. Leary; and "Oh, who will o'er the Downs with me." by tho Canterbury College Glco Club.
A FOOTBALL MATCH.
Tho strenuous life which tho University representatives have been leading for tho last few clays was brought to a close by a friendly game of football at Athletic Park, between tho local Collcgo first fifteen and representatives of tho other Collcgo athletic teams. The play throughout the first spell was fast and exciting, both sides attacking vigorously at times, though neither was ablo to pierce the other's defence. In tho second spoil, Victoria College proved themselves tho bettor team, and eventually won by 12 points to 3. Duncan (2), O'Leary, and Be'renson scored for tho winners, and llydor for the visitors, none of tho tries being converted. For Victoria College, O'Leary, Papps, and Prendeville were perhaps tho pick of an oven lot of backs, whilo tbo forwards all worked well, especially in tho loose. Wills and Dougall 'wore conspicuous among the visiting forwards, as wore MacCallum, M'Ghcsncy, and M'Brido in the backs. Professor Hunter gave every satisfaction with'tho whistle.
