Commenting on Mr. Justico Higgins'saward (which increases the men's wages to 10s. a day for miners, and, for unskilled, to Bs. 7£d. at Broken Hill and. Ss. 3d. at tho Port Pirio works), tho "Sydney Morning Herald" thinks that, having regard tfc tho strenuous nature of the work at Broken Hill, few people will bo inclined to cavil at tho Arbitration' Court award. "Tho point of difficulty, however, is whether it is a basis of remuneration which the company can accept and continue to work without loss." Mr. Justico Higgins, in his award, stated that'ho strongly held tho view that, unless tho circumstances wero very exceptional, a needy employer should, under the award, pay at tjio samo rate as his rich rival; otherwiso it would bo impossible to prevent sweating, tho growth of parasitic enterprises, or the spread of industrial unrest. .-The Proprietary Company will consider tho award next week. UNION'S POLICY. NO WORK TILL PROPRIETARY DECIDES. (Rec. Marcli 1-1, 4.30 p.m.) Sydney, March 14. Tho men employed, at tho Broken Hill Junction North miiio struck as a protest against working with noil-unionists. Tho combined unions have issued a notioo warning tho men not to return to work in fcho Proprietary and Block X mines until tho Proprietary Company announces what it intends doing. > A mooting of directors in tho Block X discussed Mr. Justico Higgins's award, njid decided to' resumo work as soon as ■is practicable.
