CANADIAN RAILWAYS.
THE GRAND TRUNK, (nx telegraph—ritEss association—corrniaur.) (Reo. March id, 4.30 p.m.) Ottav/a, March 13.' Tho Canadian. Government will lend tho Grand Trunk Pacific Railway two million sterling at 4 ; per cent, for a period of ten years, for'tho purpose of completing tho Winnipeg-Wolf Creek section, v ' ■ The Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, which was approved by Parliament in 190-1, and is being built with Government aid, will extend ncros3 tho Dominion from Moncton, New Brnnswiok, on the east const, to Prince Rupert on tho Pacific Coast. Its total length will be 3500 miles. . Over 1200 miles of railway wero built in Canada in 1008. Although this is a remarkin bio increase, tho present year will probably show still greater expansion. There are under construction at tho'present time -1327 miles of* railway. • This extent will not be" completed daring the year, but it is estimated that the expenditure on construction by tho various lines will reach .£18,000,000^
