MISSIONS TO SEAMEN.
The Missions 1 to Seamen . Institute was crowded last night, when a concert was provided, by.Mr. and-Mrs.H. E. ,Nicho!ls. Mr. James Mooro, the occupied the chair, and, during a short interval, gave several facts concerning the temperance question' resulting.-in six,men' taking the pledge. The' following contributed items to the programmeOuartet, Messrs. Kenny;.. Widdop,. Newton' Twiss; recitation, Mr. Nicholls;, songs, Miss Nicholls, Mrs. Boyd, Messrs. Newton, IViddon • Carr, Parsons, Kenny, and Twiss; violin solo! Miss G. Kennedy; .viola' solo, Miss M. Kennedy; pianoforte Doblinson. The audience, led by: the missioner, sang a' few ohoruses and chanties, Miss Newton- accompanying; on the piano. During the evening Lieutenant Knox, .R.N.R.,wl}o is leaving for England, was :tho.recipient of a handsome present and, :m expressing his warm thanks, begged the sailors to enjoy the,privileges provided by, the .Missions to Seamen -as muoh as possible, and also expressed the hope that every, port in, the world would soon have a building .such, as _ Wellington possesses. He also Bpoke of the importance of both the merchant and Royal navies, '.
