PAHIATUA R.C. MEETING.

: ROOSEVELT WINS THE CUP. . (bt/telegbaph—special ebpqktek.) . ! o L- c North, January 27. . Beautifully fine weather -prevailed yesterday for the opening day, of the Pahiatua Racing Club's annual meeting,, and there was an excellent attendance of the public during the afternoon. The sum of £6234 was passed through the totalisator, as against £6621 for, the first day of last year. . Twelve bookmakers were licensed, six inside and six outside, and, _ from the license • fees, the club will benefit to the extent of £140. The course was m capital order. Good fields contested the different events, v and the racing was quite up to the. average standard.', Eight starters went to the post for the Pahiatua Cup, which was won by Roosevelt, who got to the end of the mile and a quarter in 2mih. 8' 2-Ssec—the fastest time yet. recorded for the race. C. O'Neill abad fall off Coy in the Hurdle Race, :but escaped with a severe shaking. Some .misunderstanding' occurred between the connections of Narcotic and J. Hall, the nder, regarding the horse's running' in the Hurdle Race, and, -at the 1 jockey's request,, the stewards will probably hold an inquiry into the circumstances.
