CANADIAN ELECTIONS.

GOVERNMENT RETURNED. A SOMEWHAT REDUCED MAJORITY. (BT TSLEOBJirU—PMISS ASSOCIATION —COPTttKiltT.) Ottawa, October 27. The Canadian election returns, though incomplete, show that Sir Wilfrid Laurior's Liberal Government has been returnod with a decreased following. On the ove of tho election Mr. Murphy, the new Secretary of State, issued an order that employees of tho Government Printing Bureau' were hereafter to receive a fortnight's holiday annually. Tho Conservatives are incensed, and accuso Mr. Murphy of unblushing' bribery. London, October 27. Reuter's Ottawa correspondent reports that Sir Wilfrid Laurier will have a majority of 50, instead of, as at the previous election, 6G. Sir W. Laurier and Sir F. W. Borden (Minister for Militia and Defenco) wore each elected for two seats.

Liberal forecasts in August wero to the effect that their majority would bo reduced, but that the.y would still command a snfo working majority of 25 to 35; so apparently thesis'expectations have been exceeded. ,The "Toronto World," an independent Conservative organ, was sanguine enough to anticipate a Conservative majority, but placed it at a modest threo. Sir Wilfrid Laurier has been in power since 189 G. In the present contest his Administration has been attacked mainly with charges of party corruption.
