! ' ANNUAL REPORT. ' . • In the fourteenth annual report ofvthe Wellington Hospital Convalescent .. Home the Acting-Secretary (Mrs. Octavia Newman) states . that, the Trustees feel sure the subscribers, will )be satisfied with ■ the financial position, of the-Home, and will Tecogni-so'tho by,'patients,, whose numbers havs.-increased during, the year:* One hundred and-twenty-six patients were admitted; the : average stay ing eighteen days at a (deducting cost of improvements and repairs) 2s. 7d.'per day. Miss Oakley continues to govern tho Home with economy and ability, and is ever ready to sacrifice herself for .the.benefit of the patients and in the interests. of the Trustees. 0n : November 6 Mrs.' Pearce,; owing to. her intended visit to England, resigned • the secretaryship, a position she ably, filled for more than: three years. TJho Trustees wish to record-their appreciation of :her services;' Mrs. Pollen was elected in her place, and nobly responded to tlio work. Her death took/, place on March 11. During the few months she had been with them her ready courtesy and sympathetic in-terest-endeared-her to all -with whom she worked. The .Trustees haVe sympathy with Dr.-Pollen. It was considered advisable to make a chango in tho charges for the admission of paying patients. It w.as ; found, owing to the high prices, of living, impossible .to admit > patients under 15s.'' per week; - and furthermore,, subscribers' nominations would in ,future only permit patients to remain' in the Homo two weeks, instead of three weeks, which had hitherto been the case. This new tariff came.into force on December!, 1907. Tho 'Wellington Hospital Convalescent Fund contributed, £20 towards the patients nominated .by the Medical Officer and Matron of tho Hospital. -i
'.The visits .of l the various members'of the Visiting) Committee)contmue to be much appreciated by the- patients., Tho Trustees would bo glad to enlarge, tho Committee, as during tho wintor months the.' patients are often, much cheered by visitors from tho ontsido world. , . ' At:the; statutory meeting -held on January 9 the retiring,Trustees,'.Mrs.- Moorahouse and Mrs. Newman, wero re-elected. Tho balance-sheet shows that the amount of cash in hand'and on deposit and mortgage i 5,£1499 15s. 9d., as .against £1742 12s. Bd. last year. Household expenses cost £144 Bs. 9d.; wages, £127 Bs. 10d., and repair's and improvements, £378 14. sd. During the year contributions subject-to subsidy wero received to the extent of £161 os. 6d.; Government subsidy, £131'75. 6d.; Hospital Convalescent Fund, £20; payments, by patients, £57 16s.
