HASTINGS.

November 30. The timber merchants of 'Hastings are complaining of the scarcity of railway trucks for the transport of timber. In some instances timber for three consignees is forwarded on one truck, and a general mix-up results. .Notwithstanding that fully 42,000 super feet of timber arrives in Hastings daily, the supply is considerably short of the demand. At the present time over fifty now buildings are in course of construction, tlio majority of which are dwelling-houses. An exceedingly Quiet but most interesting wedding was celebrated on Saturday morning in the Presbyterian Church, where Miss Maud Douglas, youngest daughter of the late Mr. William Douglas, of To Mahanga, was united in wedlock to Mr. John M. A\ liite, eldest son of Mrs. J. A\hite, of Stortford Lodge. The bride was \vearing a valuable diamond bracelet, a gift from her future husband. She was given away by her brother, Sir. W. J. Douglas, and was supported by Miss Poppy Ereemau and Miss Gilpin as bridesmaids. Mr. Bert Bishop discharged the duties of best man. In the afternoon the newly-wedded pair loft for Wanganni, whence, they proceed on .their honeymoon tour. The bride is a sister of Messrs. W. J. and F. Douglas, we'll known in sporting circles.
