ENTERTAINMENTS.
A GREAT ARTIST. In Madame Alida Loman, Wellington is honoured by, -the presence of one of the- greatest singers of-- songs it has vet known or heard. Her contributions, to • each evening's delightful programme is a string of vocal pearls, each ,with its own distinct sheen. The distilled essence of musical sweetness is in every note, and the intelligence liehiud—the soul of. the singer—makes perfect the song. Last evening Modaino glorified the Concert Chamber of' the Town Hall with such vocal gems as "On Mighty Pens" (from the "Creation"), Schubert's " The Inquirer" and "Wcigenlicd" (cradle song), Haydn's " My, Mother Bid's mo Bind my Hair," the entrancing Dutch " Ring-a-ring-a-rosy " song (Van Reune's), Cowen's "The Swallows, "Lo, Hear the Gentle Lark" (Bishop), "Regrets" (Delibos), Strauss's rippling 'melody,' " Serenade," Loman's quaint " In the Smithy," '"Twos April" (Nevin), "Last Night (Kjerulf), and "A Spring Morning" (Mendelsshon). Such a singor\ interpreting such songs—it was an exquisite feast of melody. Herr Bcnno Scherek's artistic fingers revelled in Ilandel's " Chacounc," and joined ' company with the flautist, Mr. Geo. Poorerin an allegretto and finale of Greig. Mr. Poore, who produces a fine resonant tone, played as flute soli, "Le Bauillard" (the gossip) of Terschak, "The Swan" (Saint Saens), and the beautiful valso in D of Chopin. Mr. Eric Anderson sang
" The Devout Lover " (White), " Lcs RumoailS" (Faui'e). The final concert will bo given tomorrow evening, when the Concert Chamber should bo filled to its utmost capacity. THEATRE ROYAL. ■ The Fuller management has two specially attractive strings to its bow at the Theatre Royal this week, and,, as a consequence, the theatre lias been called upon to acconimodate some large audiences. The vaudeville programme is an especially good one, but good as it is there is nothing on the bill which seems to please the nudienco more than the realistic boxing film depicting the BurnsSquires boxing contest for the world's championship. MACMAHON'S PICTURES. There is variety and quality in the programme which the Messrs. iMacMahon are producing at the Opera House. The incidents in "Robbery Under Arms" are thrown on the screen with a skill which commands admiration, and the other films are excellently produced. A special matinee performance is announced for 2.30 to-morrow afternoon. .WONDERLAND. The now Mirainar pleasure resort, "Wonderland," is in capital order at present, and arrangements are being made for a special programme for to-morrow, which should entice a large number of people out to the suburban recreation ground.
