THE MABAMA AT DUNEDIN. The twin-screw steel steamboat Jlarnuia, the latest addition to the U.S.S. Co.'s licet, which left Plymouth on September 2G at i 1.12 a.m., arrived at Duncdin on November ■(, after a passago 01 30 days 11 hours, her avcrago speed for the voyage being 15.7 knots. HerJiigliest avorage speed on the voyago was made between
Williamstown and Otago Heads, a distance of 1350 miles, when sho accomplished 16.46 knots per hour.
The Marama is a steel boat of 6451 tons gross and 3952 tons not. ITor measurements are:— Length 420 ft., beam 53ft., and depth 33ft, Gin., and her loaded draught is 23ft. 7iu. On her arrival sho was drawing 19ft. aft and 15ft. forward. Sho was built for tho company by Messrs. Caird and Co.. of Greenock, who are largo builders for the P. and O. Company, and is tho first vessel built by the firm for the U.S.S. Company. Sho is a twin-screw boat, with two sets of four-crank triplo expansion engines on tho Yarrow-Schlick-Tweedy balanced system, and her cylinders are two at 2!).Jin. and 47-Jin. diameter, and four at 54in. diameter, with a 48Ln, stroke. Her boilers are two single and two double Howden's forced draught. Her engines and machinery are similar to those of tho Manuka, and her passenger accommodation arrangements are on the same lines as those of tho Maheno, a boat which sho very much resembles, but is constructed on a larger and more extensive scale. She is built to the highest class of tho British Corporation survey, is double-bottomed, with a single funnel, has fivo hatches, and is fitted with hydraulic rams and derricks for the rapid handling of cargo. The Mamma's passenger accommodation is arranged in three decks—the main deck, the hurricane deck, and the nromeiiado deck, and she is fitted to accommodate 270 saloon. 120 second-class passengers, 1000 forecabin passengers (with accommodation for another 100 if required), and has space for 140 of a crew. • ;■.

Captain Gibb some twenty-five years ago-also brought out the War'eatea for the Westport Coal Company. The Marama will be in Wellington on Friday, November 22; on which day she is timed to sail for Sydney. -
The Government steamer Tutanekai, on arrival of tho Opawa from Auckland, will tranship tho cable for Cook Strait from that vessel, and will probably leave to lay it about November 18 or 19. The. Union Company advise that, owing >to the confusion existing as to whether Saturday or Monday is to be recognised as a holiday, no caigo will be received on either day. Cargo for the Rotoiti and Arahura will'be received up to 5 p.m. to-daj\ • Tho Union Company's collier Poherua is expected to leave Westport at 10 p.m. to-day for Wellington. The collier Rosamond, also, for Wellington, is timed to leave Greyniouth on Saturday. The Largo Law, coal-laden, left Nowcastlo on Wednesday for Wellington, and is due about next Tuesday.
