The visit of Her Excellency Lady Plunket, Honorary Colonel of the. 2nd North' Canterbury Mounted Regiment, to'the-regiment"b, headquarters, at Culverclen is'likely to 'result, in much general good to the mounted Volunteers by increasing the interest in 'thom.' That Lady Plunket.is no ornamental; officer is shown by- the keen -interest she takes in. the general work of the forci, which interest is marked by her latest action in presenting a handsome' shield ■ ; fdr competition]/among the mounted Volunteers of the' Dominion. As Her Excellency'is the Hon: Coloncl'qf a Canterbury regiment, she has asked ...that the; first competition for T the-Shield be'h'eld : on'a 'Canterbury..'ground,'th'o locality of further competitions to be settled, later. It'is suggested that the competition cftke place about March or April. Tire conditions of test will be framed by Colonel Davies, In-spector-General of. the Forcfc, and it is safe' to say that, they will.be of'a service natura.
