British administration in Egypt, as in India, has been, the subject' of bitter attack by a* section in tho Hiiuso of Commons, and Mr. Grayson's outburst is possibly timed to\keep company with that of Mr. Kbir Hardie. 1 Mr. Grayson stood as a Socialist for Colno Valley, and: was olected on tho votes of 3648 electors, the Liberal candidate securing 3495 afld the Unionist candidate 3227. On the occasion of tho grant of £50,000 to Lord Cromer, Mr. William Redmond referred to'him as " a,retired despot," and declared, "Things havo been done under Lord Cromer's sanction at which the civilisation of mankind stands shocked."
