The " Standard's " Berlin correspondentsays it is reported that the Krupp works and cannon foundries at, Essen, in Rhenish Prussia', are' discharging 3000 workmen, owing to a decrease in orders. .. . ■ : / The number of ' hands'- employed attho Krupp works has risen from 74 men in 1848 to over 30,000. There are other manufacturers in Essen, which is situated in a rich coal and iron district.
