' . <3> Major-General Sir John .Charles Ardagh, K.C.M.G., K.C.1.E., LL.D., I'VR.G.S., F.K.C.1., has Belled a great number' of important military and diplomatic positions. .He figured at ,the conference at Constantinople in 187G, th i Congress of Berlin in 1878, Bulgarian Boundary Commission in 1879, Conference of Berlin in 1880, and Conference of 'Constantinople in- 1881; he was also ia -commissioner for delimitation of tlie Turco-Greek frontier in 1881. He took part'in the Egyptian and Soudan Wars of tho early eighties, and was head of the "Intelligence Department in the Soudan, in . 1881, aiid was Director of Military Intelligence at tho War Office from 189G to 1901, which period ombraces two years of the Boer war. Major-General Ardagh was a delegate to The • Hagno Conference. in 1899, and was Government Director of the Suez Canal Company-in 1903. '
