Protection.— Protection for iftiiety days for a quartz' claim at Bendigo was applied for by Thomas .Logaii and two others, the reason given for requiring protection being to arrange for pumping machinery. Application was granted, there being no objection ; but the Warden said lie woitld riot renew the protection unless some greater effortrwere'made by the applicants to get {ramping machinery than appeared to have been . made hitherto. Water fiaces. —James Kennedy and another applied for a water-race two miles in length, to i carry three sluice-heads, from first creek east of Nevis river ; they also applied for an extension, two miles in length, on licensed water-race 352, 1/8/71.' They also applied for one sluice-head from second creek east of Nevis river; one sluicehead i from third creek east of Nevis river ; and •one sluice-head each from the fourth, fifth, and ■sixth creeks. All the applications were granted. —Ah Hung and another were granted three sluice-heads from Five-mile creek.—Ah Leong and five others were granted six sluice-heads from Nevis river. .Dam.— Magnus Hedlund's amended application for dam on Slaughter-yard flat was granted. RtsMmte Area. —Samuel Halcrow applied for one acre on Doctor's flat: not granted.
