, The ordinary fortnightly, meeting of the aboVe Council was Held on Thursday evening last,'in the Town-hall.' Present: The Mayor Jolly, Wright, Shanty, and Pier.ce,.' . ~ . ~..• The jninu.tes.of the previous meeting were Tead"an.d confirmed. FRESH ELECTION OP AUDITOR. The Town Clerk also read a minute of: the proceedings at the election of' auditor on . Thursday; the "13th inst., when Mr. Jenour, being the only candidate, had been declared duly elected* ■i\ ui u . .<' . i , Mr Jenour not having taken the necessary declaration within the 'time by law, it was decided that a fresh election must titke place ; ; and' Thursday, the 4th December, was fixed as the day on which it should be held. CORRESPONDENCE. The. only outward correspondence was a letter to the District Surveyor at Clyde, informing him that the Council could not accept the plan of the town furnished by him, ?as ; it would not answer the'purpose designed .to be answered. , ; The inward consisted of two letters: one from the Under-Secretary at Wellington, ac- . • xrio wledging the information of the election •of Mr Dawkihs as Mayor; the other from the Receiver of Land Revenue, Dunedin, re- . ferringthe Council to the Chief Commissioner -.for-information in regard to the sale of town flections. . . ,l PERMANENT LEVELS. ' ~,,,&;. Jolly brought up the report of the Public Works Ccuainittee in connection with -Mr.Smythies'. plan of- the above. It suggested .several alterations in the gradients proposed by Mr Smythies. An account from Mr Henry, mail•contractor, for, conveyance on five occasions , "during winter of, the : mails from Clyde, was held over for further information, ' BYE-LAWS. ...'••' It.was .decided' that a' Committee of the ■whele Council should meet on Monday, for the purpose of framing a code of bye-laws for the use and guidance of the Municipality, EXTENSION OF THE FOOTPATH. :v. • Cr Pierce drew attention to the. desira- :: ".bility of forming the footpath from the Postoffice to Mr Grant's residence; As it was • ■ i-inteßded shortly to proceed with the permanent ' formation of the street between the , points named-, the matter w,as left over for the present.
