A correspondent at the following:—“ Knowing that-a'few particulars of the celebrations in honor of the marriage of Mr Brian HobienJwl|r^’ ( read with great interest by your numerous subscribers at Logantown, I send vpittajf<Av| jottings which I made on the occasion. On the day of the marriage, the Cromwell Quartz Mining Company, of which "Mf Hebden is one of the original shareholders, granted a holiday to all hands raT tliehi employment, to enable the men to ti eiqj.>ye them selves at the wedding festivities,;-,g\ i fpeii the marriage ceremony (performed by tbn Rev. After crossing the ferry at Rock the party was largely augmented well-wishers from the Reefs, who escWted them to Perriam’s Provincial HoteK ir hi)a approaching the township, a suocessjsirof heavy blasts were fired, miking a welgaafe 1 salute which reverberated in the ing hills again and again. This served a substitute for the peals of the m:sMage| bells ; for we are not yet blessed wifchkmy
place of worship on the reefs, ergo we never gladdened with the musical the Sabbath bell. It being now about seven o’clock, the whole party assembled at Perriam’s Provincial Hotel, and were entertained with vocal and instrumental music until supper was announced, about eight o’clock. Mr G-. W. Goodger, Mayor of Cromwell, presided, and proposed the toast of the evening, “ Health, happiness, and prosperity to the bride and bride groom”—a toast which was carried amidst loud applause. Mr Hebdeu replied in suitable terms. The room was then cleared, and dancing was entered into with great spirit, and kept up till a late hour the following morning. The festive scene was graced with a goodly number of ladies, who of course attracted the utmost attention in the ball-room. The night was all that could be desired—the moon shone brilliantly, and the sky was cloudless—and as a consequence the township was crowded till after twelve o’clock. There was not a single mishap of any sort during the whole affair, and the party dispersed at a late hour ou the following morning, highly pleased with the hospitable and well-ar-ranged entertainment.”
