We have been shewn samples of whisky and gin from the distillery of Messrs C. R. Howden & Co., Dunedin. Wo understand that they ha VO' been tasted by several hotelkeepers in the district who ought to be good judges on the subject, and they pronounce them very good, and sav that with ago they will prove equal to the imported articles. The cost of the spirits will bo much less than that of imported ones, the duty onimported spirits being -123; while'on thatmade in the Colony it is only Gs.
