WAIWERA.
AMBULANCE CLASS. FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. During the winter months a class for young people in first aid wan carried on under the auspices of St. .John Ambulance Association, Dr. Hotop, of Clinton, being the instructor. The attendance I was good throughout, and keen interest was evinced by the students, many of them coining considerable distances to attend the lectures. On Friday evening last an examination was held and several sat for examination, Dr Hotop conducting the practical part, the papers on the theoretical part being sent on to .the examining centre in Duucdin. Mr C. MeKinnon acted as supervisor and, on behalf of the class, took occasion to express to l)r Hotop the appreciation of the class at the work of the session and the benefit derived thereby. He had pleasure in handing the doctor a brief bag as a small memento of the esteem and. regard in which he was held. The course of lectures, together with the practical demonstrations, would be extremely helpful to the students, and their thanks were therefore due to the doctor for his efforts on their behalf.
I)r Hotop, in accepting the presentation, thanked them one and all. Ho had not expected any such presentation; the work of the- class had been a real pleasure to him. He hoped they would iind the lectures useful, and that the instruction given would enable them to pass, the examination, ami thus obtain the certificate of St. John Association.
