VIOLENT SQUALL AT AUCKLAND.
AUCKLAND, Nov. 25. One of the most violent squalls experienced at Auckland for several years swept across the harbor shortly before half-past four p.m., and although it only lasted for about 10 minutes, in that time vessels dragged their anchors and drifted about in nil directions. For about half an hour Where was a general mix-v,p of ferry steamers, trading scows, ketches, launches, and many other craft. When the storm broke almost vessel ut anchor dragged and fairly raced down the harbor in the direction of Hobson and Queen's Wharf. Urgent messages were sent from all directions for assistance, and the Harbor Board and other tugs had a merry time for fully two Ihours towing drifting craft to safe anchorages out of the fairway. The first squall was succeeded by another shortly before six o'clock p.m.,' but by this time most of the craft had been secured and towed to safe anchorage,, The scow Excejsior was carried into Barton, wharf, to which some damage was done, after which she drift, ed ashore.
