BOARD OF CONSERVATORS FOR INCH CLUTHA RIVER DISTRICT.

A special meeting of the above Board was held in the Drill-shed, Inch Clutha, on Monday afternoon. There were present : Messrs Anderson, Smaill, and Bell. In the absence of Mr Mosley the chairman, Mr Anderson was voted to the chair. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed. » The Chairman stated that the object of the meeting was to receive and consider claims, if any, from contractors for river embankments within the river district — in consequence of the Board having cancelled all contracts for river embankments—owing to the effects of the late disastrous floods thereby causing so many channels and gaps through the river banks within the river district. A report from Mr Kelly, Inspector of Works, to the Board was laid on the table in reference to the several contracts that were under construction previous to the late floods. Several claims from contractors were opened, and after consideration thereon it was resolved, ' ' That some lie over till next meeting when all the members of the Board would be present. " The matter of applying to the Government for a loan was discussed by the members present, after which it was moved by Mr Smaill, and seconded by Mr BeU, " That the chairman be authorised to apply to the Government for the loan of LIO,OOO, to repair damages occasioned by the late floods within the river district."- Agreed t0. . . Two accounts for advertisements was passed for payment. The Board adjourned till Monday, the llth inst. , at 3 o'clock.
