MATAU ROAD BOARD.
1> The ordinary monthly meeting of tho Matau Road Board was held in the schoolToom, Inch Clutha, on Saturday afternoon. There were present Messrs Inglis (chairman), Mosley, Lawson, Willocks, Robertson, and Petrie. The minutes of previous meeting wero read and confirmed. The Chairman read a letter from tho Clerk of the Clinton Road Board re conference of chairmen and members of Road Boards >*ithin the Clutha County, in reference to the County levying a shilling rate. Received. A letter was read from the South Molyneux Road Board, showing the necessity for and advantages of a punt being placed on the Koua branch of the river, and asking the Board's assistance. It was moved by Mr Mosley, seconded by Mr Willocks, and carried — "That the Matau Road Board feel quite in accordance and harmony with the wishes and proposals of the South Molyneux Road Board in the matter, but owing to the low state of the funds at present are unable to assist with money, but . will hand over to the South Molyneux Board their right to the old punt and wire cable, which is worth over LIOO, and all other appurtenances connected therewith. " A letter was read from Mr John Watt asking permission to placo a box culvert across Centre road, from his property to centre ditch. Permission granted. A letter was read from Mr John Watt in reference to closing up road between sections 7 and 8, block xii., Inch Clutha. After discussion, it was moved and agreed : to — " That a deputation, consisting of Messrs Mosley and Willocks, wait on Mr * Peter Smith in reference to same." A letter read from the Chairman of i "the Akaroa and Wainui Road Board in connection with endowments to Road 1 Boards. Resolved— " That the Matau 1 Road Board agrees with the petition, and pledges itself to support the application
and to ask tho member for the district to support the same when brought b- -fore the House." A letter was read from the Treasiuy. Wellington, intimating that the sum of L23 17b had beea placsd to the. Board's credit at the Bank, being share of tho sum of L 477 Os Id at credit of the separate account of the County of Ciutha. — i'eceived. Tenders were opened for river bank protection works, North Molyneux : — Thomas Rowley, L 3 IGs 9d per chain ; Hunter and Co. , L 2 155. , or if straw or scrub wore provided Ll 15s ; Malcolm M'Kinlay, L3 7s 6d ; John Fraser, L 3 ICs. It was moved by Mr Lawson, and seconded by Mr Robertson — '* That Hunter and Co.'s tender bo accepted." Carried. It was moved by Mr Mosley, seconded by Mr Robertson, and agreed to — " That the Clerk be instructed to write to the Clutha County Council, drawing attention to alarge quantity of straw that has been placed along river bank road line (Matau branch), near Mr Mosley's, and asking tho County to secure same with post and wire, the road being the County road on Inch Clutha." It was moved by Mr Robertson, seconded by Mr Willocks, and carried — ■* That the offer of Messrs Smaill and Sons re road lino be accepted, on the condition that they withdraw that part of their letter which refers to the Board guaranteeing to keep said piece of road in good repair, and from being further washed away." The Clerk was instructed to inform Messrs Smaill to that effect. It was moved by Mr Lawson, seconded by Mr Mosley, and carried — **" That tenders be called immediately for river bank I protection works near the Presbyterian I Church, Inch Clutha." i The following accounts were passed for payment :— Thomas Rowley, ditching on t cross road, Inch Clutha, L3 Is 3d ; Mal- | colm Morrison, progress payment, LSO ■ !
