SOUTH MOLYNEUX ROAD BOARD.
« The ordinary monthly meeting of the South Molyneux Road Board was held on Thursday. 25th ult. There were present : Messrs Henderson (chairman), Jowitt, | Smith, M'Lean, G. Johnstone, Hay, Wilson, Pat-Tson, Morton, J. Johnston, Mcl- ! ville, and Steven. | The minutes of last meeting were read ; and confirmed. | It was resolved — cc That tho Chairman be appointed to allocate the applications | to run cattle on the Port Molyneux Reserve, also to instruct the ranger how to act with cattle running on the Reserve without being licensed." It was resolved — " That a Committee be appointed (consisting of Messrs Wilson, Hay, Henderson, and Paterson) to consider the desirability of getting a public pound appointed in the district, and to report at next meeting." A letter was read from the Treasury, Wellington, stating that the sum of L59 12s Cd had heen remitted to the Board's account at the Bank, being the sharo o? the sum of L 477 Os Id at credit of the separate account of the County of Clutha. The Inspector, as instructed at the last meeting, reported on Wiltshire Flat and Clean roads, with estimates of the probable cost to repair the same. Resolved — " That tenders be called for the works, to be opened at next meeting." The Inspector was instructed to examine and report on works requiring to be done on Iwikiki road, Puerua Sub-division. A circular was read from the Chairman of tho Akaroa and Wainui Road Board with reference to subsidies to Road Boards under the 13th clause of the Fidancial Arrangements Act, 1876, which will terminate on the Ist January, 1882, and that Road Board Districts after that date will be wholly dependent on their local rates for the maintenance of roads, &a. The circular suggested that a system of endowments of Road Boards from- the waste lands of the Crown is desirable, and requested the co-operation and influence of the member for the district in tb c Assembly. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Paterson, seconded by Mr Melville— " That the Clerk acknowledge receipt of circulars, and the Chairman be requested to communicate with Mr Thomson, the member for the district, asking him to support any measure that may be introduced having for its object the endowment of Road Boards." Pive tenders were opened for contract No. 142, Port Molyneux subdivision, and that of George Balloch (L2l 15s) was ! accepted. Three tenders were opened for contract No. 143, Kororo Creek, and j James Miller's (LS Is) was accepted. j Accounts were passed to the amount of Ll2 Os 6d, and the Board adjourned to the 21st August — the annual meeting.
