STONY CREEK SCHOOL.

The examination of this school took place on Wednesday last week, when a number of parents and others assembled to witness the proceedings. The examination was conducted by the Rev. Mr M'Ara, and the various classes were put to a searching scrutiny. Considering the shorttime the school lias been open, the pupils showed very satisfactory progress, and fully testified [to the ability- and; zeal of the teacher, Mr Christie. Very handsome prizes were awarded to the winners. As those who did, not secure a prize received a book, all went home happy and contented. The following were the prizetakers : — First Royal Reader. — Ist, M. Marshall ; 2nd, Jessie Bower. Second Royal. — T. Bishop and J. Bower, equal. Sequel to third Royal. — Ist, Martha Campbell ; 2nd, Hugh Boyd. Third Royal. —lst, J. Kinder ; 2nd, Ellen Campbell. Fourth Royal. — Ist, John Bower ; 2nd, John Campbell. Writing. — John Campbell. Fifth Royal. ~W. Ford and Christina Marshall equal. Writing. — W. Ford. SPECIAL PRIZES. ' Presented by Mrs G. Houliston for dictation.—Christina Marshall. - fc -»- Presented by Mrs J. Bishop for the girl who, made the most progress during the term. — Jemima Kinder. Presented by Mrs T. Bishop for good behaviour. —Jessie Bishop. Four large prizes remained after the prizes and presents were disposed of, and it was agreed , to hold them over till next year. Before closing, Mr M'Ara addressed the children in a few suitable words, ' and urged them to continue studying their lessons with spirit and perseverance; He ' had .taken a great interest 1 in the school j had examined it three or four times, and was much pleased at their progress. Complimentary remarks .upon the success of the teacher's labour, etc. , followed, and after three cheers for the holidays^ and thanks to the examiner, a hymn concluded the day's proceedings. .
