Paraparaumu Jottings

("Chronicle" Correspondent) • The combined beach and town branches of St. Paul's Sunday School held their annual prizegiving in the Anglican Schoolroom, Paraparaumu, recently, when the children entertained with Christmas carols and.a play, "Moses In the Bulrushes." Rev. W. O. Williams presented the prizes, after which the children were treated to ice-creams and other delicacies. The Paraparaumu branch of the Women's Division of Federated Farmers held its December meeting recently when the centre of

attraction was a Christmas tree gaily trimmed in the traditional way and bearing gifts for all. Mrs. M. C. Connolly presided and extended hearty Christmas greetings to all. A pianoforte solo was given by Mrs. W. Hercock and Misses Williams, Cox and Potts also entertained. A community sing, featuring Christmas carols, followed and was very much enjoyed by all. Mrs. Frederick was the winner of the best flower competition, and the hest vegetable award went to Mrs. Glenn Campbell. Afternoon tea was served. A swimming pool was opened at the Paraparaumu School recently, to be known as the Jubilee Memorial Baths. Its capacity is 10,000 gallons and under the control of a teacher-instructor these "baths should prove valuable in teaching pupils to swim. The project is the prodpct of the work and enthusiasm of the Paraparaumu School Parents' and Teachers' Association. Helpers gave willihgly of their time and labour in furthering it. , . Thieves have been at work m the Paraparaumu Beach area recently. The store owned by Messrs Wilson Bros. was broken into a short time ago and also Mr. A. D. Mclntosh's pharmacy. Glass in the front of each shop was broken to gain entry.
