Municipal Band Obtains 32 New Instruments
After waiting a considerable time, the Levin Municipal Band has at last been able to obtain an additional 32 instruments, without which its progress would have been somewhat retarded. The instruments cost £1,000 and are all in excellent condition, although some are not new. Together with the existing set, the band now has 56 instruments. Previously there were insufficient spares to enable the teaching of learners, but with the new set it will now be possible to have a learners' class of considerable size. With the aid of various appeals and collections the committee has in hand half the amount required to meet the expense and it hopes to raise the balance by means oi £5 debentures. So far the band has received the full support of the public in this effort. Since Sunday evening the band has been playing carols in different sections of Levin and it is hoped that the whole area will have -been covered by tomorrow night. From the amount received in donations over the last two evenings it is apparent that public enthusiasm for the band is not waning.
