DON'T HOLD UP A.A. MEN UNNECESSARILY
Among those officials who will spend their Christmas watching to see that motorists get to their' destinations are the Automobile Associatipn patrol offlcers. In a word of advice to motorists, Patrol Offlcer R. Keenan says that too many accidents are caused after a vehicle has broken down on the road. "See that you pull right off the "road. There have been too many killed when changing tyres. At night do not obscure the tail light of your vehicle when you are changing a rear tyre. In this regard passengers standing at the rear of cars, observing or helping to change tyres, offend by standing in front of the tail light. Passengers can help materially by acting as lookouts for the driver and, if necessary_, directing other traffic past a stationary vehicle." Patrol offlcers of the A.A. appreciated the drivers who give clear and decisive signals. "If you have the bonnet of your car up and we pass give us a definite signal as to whether you need us or not. There might be someone else just along the road who is really in trouble." When ringing the association motorists, whether members of the A-A. or not, are asked to give the name, model and make of the car and its registered number, including the locality in which it has become stranded to as near a definite point as possible. If assistance was- later found to be no longer required the association would appreciate being told quickly, or the motorist waiting until the patrol arrived. To slow drivers he said: "The rest of the drivers do „not deny you the right to go at a slow pace in a jaunt to the beach, providing you keep well over to the left hand side of the road. Caravan1 owners incur a great risk in travelling fast. The limit for such vehicles is 35 m.p.h. Too few caravans carry safety chains. Even if they are not ilegally compulsory they are very necessary for safety." On behalf of the A.A., Mr. Keenan wished all road users a happy and safe Christmas.
