"When going on a trip this Christmas do your hurrying before you -get into youf car— not on the road." This sound advice is given tc all motorists by those people whc have most to do with accidents on the. roads. Already their work has begun, as "can be ssen by the reports of accidents which are appearing in the daily newspapers Keep hard over to the left ano. do not drive too fast when visibility is poor. Do not overtake when the road is not clear and make sure your vehicle is not overloaded at the rear and is mechanically sound before starting out. Those are the essential hints given by the district traffic inspeetor, Mr. W. Boyes, for Christmas 1949. In referring to caravans, he emphasises that the maximum speed for vehicles with attachments is 35 m.p.h. He asks other road users to give caravans a wide berth and not force them into awkward position-s as. they are restricted in manoeuvring. The above points, he stated today, were the main causes of accidents. "If you are ever in doubt give everyone else the benefit of the doubt," he concluded in wishing all road users a happy and accident free Christmas and New Year.
