Collection For Leper Fund Stolen From Hotel

WELLINGTON, Dec. 19. More than £10— part of a novel collection in aid of the Leper fund— was stolen during the weekend from a bar of the New City Hotel, in Wellington. Months ago someone discovered that a coin, if moistened with beer, stuck as if with glue when pressed against a varnished shelf above the bar. Pennies and silver coins and notes were stuck there by bar patrons, and periodically cleared and donated to some worthy cause. The current collection is in aid of the leper fund, fout this morning it was discovered that some notes, including one £5 note, and some silver coins had been detached and an attempt made to detach other notes and coins. Determined that the collection for the leper fund would still be a success, the proprietor of the hotel, 'Mr, ,H. Galbraith, and a barman, Mr. A. Cadwallader, today each donated £5 towards the replacement of the stolen money.
