Nativity Pageant In Mt. Eden Crater
"Q" — AUCKLAND, DhC. 18. Tbe crater of Mount Eden formed a huge natural amphitlieatre for the staging of a nativity pageant by the Ponsonby Cliristian Community Cent.re on Saturday night. The spectacular and colourful pevf'ormance was watolied by a large crowd. More than 900 people were counted on the grassy slopes of the crater just before dusk and many more arrived after dark in special buses and private cars. The setting was ideal. It was alniost dark when the pageanf began and in the fading light the trees along the top of the mountain were silhouetted against the sky. The band and choir were placed at the bottom of the crater and the voices floated up on the still air'. Tableaux were staged nearer the top. The whole performance was in time to a background of hymns and carols. The Rev. Harris Whitfield, of Ponsonby, was director and organiser. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr J. A. C. Ailum, and Mayor of Mount "Edeli, Mr 'R. J. Mills, spoke briefly.
