Pre-Wedding Party With Gay Setting

Bowls of lovely flowers, hosts of gay paper flowers, and soft green lycopodium made a gay setting for the pre-wedding gift evening tendered Miss Betty Lumsden and Mr. Thomas Empson (who wedding takes place today), held in the Hautere Hall recently. Miss Lumsden wore a beautiful apple green frock, trimmed with frills and lace yoke. On arrival the guests were met by two of Miss Lumsden's Te Horo School pupils, Neville Strom and Teddy Cobb, who made presentations of ■ a shoulder spray and a buttonhole. The hall was crowded with happy dancers. Bright music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Tews, of Otaki, who were also presented with flowers by Master Ken. Hayward, while Mr. C. Cobb carried out the duties of master of ceremonies and kept things going merrily until the wee small hours.' Novelty dances were won by Miss Trail and Mr. J. Spiers, and by Miss Andrew and Mr. Nicholson, after which the M.C. asked the happy guests . to open their numerous gift parcels. On doing so Miss Lumsden was the recipient of a dainty floral bouquet, presented by Miss Shirley Cobb. On behalf of the Te Horo Women's Institute, a presentation was made to Miss Lumsden by the president, Mrs. "W. Clark, * who very ably expressed appreciation of the guest's many qualities, while Mr. T. Fuller made a presentation on behalf of the Te Horo Tennis Club. Mr. Empson thanked the hostesses, Mesdames C. Cobb and C. Strom, for their many kindnesses and for arranging the evening. He thanked those present for the most useful presents displayed, assuring all that they would be made good use of. Miss Lumsden voiced thanks to the women's institute and tennis club. The Te Horo Younger Set and the young ladies who will figure as bridesmaids then served a Very dainty supper, after which dancing was resumed. Mrs. L. Styles gave two recitations in her usual pleasing manner. The evening was later brought to a close with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne," followed by the National Anthem. The floral work, which was greatly admired, was executed by Mrs. E. .Co'bb, Otaki Raiiway.
