GOVERNMENT FLEES TO TAIWAN
Received Friday, 12.15 p.m. HONG KONG, Dec. 8. The Nationalist Government fled the mainland today' and took refuge in Taiwan, presumably for a last stand against the Communists. Premier Yen Hsi-shan and topranking members of his Cabinet arrived in Taiwan tonight from Chengtu. The Premier announeed that Cabinet would begin functioning formally on Taiwan tomorrow. He confirmed that Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek had also left Chengtu, but would not disclose his whereabouts. The Premier said that Chiang was unlikely to assume the Presidency again.
