Council To Tighten Up On Wastage Of Water
m A tightening up -in the usage of water throughout the summer monfhs will shortly be made by the Levin Borough Council. The councii is concerned about a report from the waterworks overseer, Mr. W. Greig, who said that he would like to see the council taking steps to prevent wastage on properties out of the borough before restrictions are placed on the town people. The farmers, he reported, were the worst offenders, there being a "terrific" amount of water lost through oVerfiowiiig troughs, broken and leaking fittings and- leaky taps around cow bails. He suggested that they be given seven 'days in Which to effect repairs. The council, at its meeting on Monday - night, decided to cirCUlarise those outside the borough who use the town water supply and warn them accordingly. In regard to wastage in the town, it was suggested that a part time Water inspector bq appointed. Last year the town clerk was deputised to watch for offenders, particularly those who left hoses running unattended. The council decided to consider the whole questiOn of the appointment of a pUrt time inspector.
