Rail Mishap At Manakau Upsets Service
The deraiiment of four wagons of a goods train during shUnting operations at 4.40 p.m, yesterday completely blocked the main trunk line at the south eh4r Of the Manakau railway yafps and brought temporary disruption to tho service. . • * Worst affected train was- the Gisborne - Wellington -express which arrived -at Levin ,at 5.30 p.m. where it was held. Passengers for' the inter-island -..ferry Were rushed to Wellington in taxis and the others edmpleted their journey later by buses. The Palmerston North-Welling-ton Field's train reached Manakau at 5,15 p.m. and the pasSengers continued their idurney to Wellington and intermediate statiotts by buses, Fortunafcely,' the Weliington-Auckland express had passed through Manakau a feW minutes prior to the mishap. The line was cleared about 7 p.m, and subsequent trains -were running a few ffiinutes behind schedule,.
